A little heart to heart

Hello my little huckleberries! I know it's been a while and thank you for all the email and comments left wondering about my lack of posting. Seems that sometimes life gets in the way of blogging. I have been busy with family stuff, house stuff, and visiting friends stuff. I also have been busy working on my naked happy dance because you know... practice makes perfect.

Hearts over at "Guilty with an explanation" sent me a meme over a week ago and although I swore to get right on it, I am just getting to it now. Heart's blog is among my favorites. She is smart, witty and insightful. Now to the meme before I get distracted. It's an interview, 5 questions kind. (Heart's questions and my answers.)

1) I would like to know all the reasons you moved to Puerto Rico, besides the incredible staggering beauty of the place. This property was purchased close to 10 years ago as an investment, a possible retirement getaway and for sentimental reasons. This is where my dad grew up, in fact he went to grade school just down the road. About 3 years ago I came here on vacation for what was suppose to be a 2 week stay and stayed for a month. Shortly there after I came back to deal with a family crisis and I have been here ever since. In the process of being the fabulous problem solver/care giver that I am, I rediscovered my roots. (not that I had ever left them behind, just that my focus was different.) I found that my culture, and my island held my history and perhaps my future. The activism and beliefs my parents instilled in me, came to flourish here. I am here, choosing to speak for those who can't, taking care of those who need a helping hand, and living a much more selfless life. Of course, why I am here is much more convoluted and complicated than I am stating but the bottom line is that I love my homeland and had always planed on returning. Fate just had a way of getting me here sooner than I had anticipated.

2) If you could meet one famous person from any era, who would it be, and what would you want to ask him or her? I'd would like to meet Albert Einstein. I'd want to ask him how he managed to use his genius for good not evil and still have the courage to be himself. How does one stay true to himself and yet cope with the ideals and expectations of the planet? (that may be 2 questions but so) Yes, Albert Einstein because I admire those who were told they couldn't but did.

3) If you were assured the wildest success in any career of your choice, what would it be? I'd have to say it would be in the only career I enjoyed (and was damn good in, she said modestly), the field of psychology. The success would be to understand human behavior enough to alter it in a way that would allow for more happiness. The ability to teach the skills needed so that everyone gets an equal chance at living the best life they can. Since it's my "wildest success" to help conquer mental illness, now that would be wild.

4) If you were given 10 million dollars, free and clear, how would you spend it? I'd spend 5 million making my family and friends a little more comfortable and 5 million I would give to charity. The charities would be : Susan G komen foundation, Heifer International, Kiva, and the International Aids Alliance.

5) What quality of character do you most want to be remembered for by your loved ones? Sincerity.

As the BLOG turns ...

The interviewing continues in the blogging world. Fringes who has her own unique way of engaging in meme's decided to twist the rules and rather than ask questions herself, has paired up her readers. Q and I have been paired, he the interviewer and yo soy la interviewee. (Be afraid my friends, be very afraid.) Unlike Jali, whose questions I greeted with open arms, I must say I had a bit of trepidation about the "infamous" Q. But hey, you know me, I may not be a kabuki dancer, or a monkey trainer, or even a grave digger, but I am a damn good team player.

Q: I'm getting bored with Fringes. Are you looking for a new lover? What if I told you I'm available? Are you available to do laundry? cook my meals? chauffeur me around? keep me in the lifestyle in which I have become accustomed? If your answer to any of these questions is "no" ... then NO, I am not looking for a new lover. My current lover is fun, cute, witty and incredibly generous, makes him a very hard act to follow.

Q: I've never been to Puerto Rico. If I had only one day to see the must-see sights, where would you take me? Impossible to see all the "must-see" spots in one day but some of my favorites are: "El Morro" (first stop, it's close to the airport), it's a fortress, and a national monument. Also, one of the most photographed spots in Puerto Rico. On to "El Yunque" our rain forest. The only tropical forest in the United States National forest system. 28,000 acres of water falls, monkeys, parrots and you know, all that stuff associated with a rain forest except deadly snakes. Next stop "The Arecibo Observatory". It's the world's largest single-dish radio telescope. Like I always say, you haven't lived until you have seen the "world's largest something". By now, I think we would be hungry and when you are hungry in Puerto Rico you think PORK. So we head to "Guavate", its Lechoneras (slow turning rotisserie over an open flame, usually the whole pig). Many restaurants/stands lining a long picturesque road. Musicians, plenty of Medalla Beer and Palo Viejo rum (that Bacardi shit is for tourists). Last but not least the "Camuy Caverns", pretty groovy and we get to sit and ride a tram for a little while, I'm tired after this whirlwind sightseeing. OK, Q trip is over, time to go home, get out, come back when you have at least week, I'll show you the rest of the island.

Q: Is Eslocura Spanish for hot blogger chick? If not, what else can it possibly mean? YES, absolutely, no doubt, it means "hot blogger chick". (but if it had to mean something else, it might mean Es=it's Locura=chronic psychosis).

Q: Besides lube, name 10 non-edible uses for apple jelly. (you did research, am impressed) Glue, Face wrinkle remover (pectin is a natural wrinkle remover, few people know this, but I am pleased to educate), shoe shine (a little sticky but it is shiny), insecticide (doesn't actually kill the bugs but they get stuck, which could lead to death), embalming fluid (it's what the ancient Egyptians used), cat shampoo (I use bungee cords to keep him still), sunscreen ( SPF 0.2), toilet bowl cleaner (another advantage to pectin), perfume (dab a little behind both ears.), electrical outlet tester (watch the sparks).

Q: I personally like to receive. Which do you enjoy? Giving or receiving? (This question may have some sexual innuendo/connotation to some but not to me.) I'm a taker. I don't share well so by default "giving" isn't my thing. However I do receive well, things like jewelery and expensive shoes are receiving favorites.

Jali 's questions, my answers

I was over visiting Jali's house the other day and by doing so, I now have to answer some questions. It beats having to clean or do the dishes. (she's always excusing the mess over there.)

If you had unlimited time to do something you've been putting off, what would it be? I would paint my living room, get my hair dyed, get a manicure and pedicure, sleep for days, take a trip, build an ark (you did say unlimited time)

Name a celebrity crush. (c'mon, we won't judge you) Raul Julia, he's dead now but if you mean someone whose alive then at the moment no one. (but if Prince called and asked me to come over, I would)

How long can you go without sex? with or without a partner? an eternity, am so damn loyal that way.

What do you love most about yourself? My ability to always land on my feet no matter how often life kicks my ass. (as an added bonus, the thing I hate the most about myself is my hair)

How long have you been friends with your best friend? For so long that we can speak each other's unspoken language. For so long that, even when we aren't in touch for a while we can easily pick up where we left off.
